“The Spell of Hypnos” – track 4 from my album, “Ancient Dreamscapes” – available from all major digital music platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music & Amazon. Similar to my 2017 experimental album, “Ascension of the Lyre”, the mixing and mastering of my lyre improvisations which form “Ancient Dreamscapes” features a distinctive fusion of the exotic, ancient timbre of my recreated lyres, with a subtle use of dreamy, other-worldly studio effects.

The ultimate aim of this release, is to create a meditative, inspirational compilation; suitable for enhancing creative thinking, relaxation & to transport the listener to distincitve dreamscapes sculptured by their own imaginations in response to my lyre improvisations.

Lossless studio quality audio or 320kbps quality MP3’s of this album also available from Bandcamp:

This track features an improvisation created with loop pedal; mixed and mastered with the subtle use of dreamy contemporary studio effects, in my attempt to evoke the attributes of Hypnos – the ancient Greek god of sleep.

Quoting from Wikipedia:

“In Greek mythology, Hypnos is the personification of sleep; the Roman equivalent is known as Somnus. Hypnos is the son of Nyx (“The Night”) and Erebus (“The Darkness”). His brother is Thanatos (“Death”). Both siblings live in the underworld (Hades) or in Erebus, another valley of the Greek underworld. According to rumours, Hypnos lived in a big cave, which the river Lethe (“Forgetfulness”) comes from and where night and day meet. His bed is made of ebony, on the entrance of the cave grow a number of poppies and other hypnotic plants. No light and no sound would ever enter his grotto. According to Homer, he lives on the island Lemnos, which later on has been claimed to be his very own dream-island. He is said to be a calm and gentle god, as he helps humans in need and, due to their sleep, owns half of their lives”.

The lyre featured in this track, is my 10-string lyre, made in the USA by Marini Made Harps.

The lyre theme which I have looped & upon which I have based this improvisation, is my “Hymn to Zeus” – originally featured on my 2010 album, “Apollo’s Lyre”, in 2018, Rufus Wainwright adapted my lyre theme in two scenes of his second opera, “Hadrian”
