It was nice working with Alejandro on Almost Blue. Although we never met in person, we had many conversations about the concept and the way we wanted to interpret this song. We were impressed with Chet Baker’s version of Elvis Costello’s composition. While we wanted to retain the essence of the song, we wanted a sound that was unique to us. We worked on this song initially using classical guitar and trumpet, when I thought, by share chance, to try a flugelhorn instead. In the end, we decided that our duet would consist of classical guitar and flugelhorn.
