This is a little Scherzo for piano (in 2/4 time, instead of the traditional 3/4 for Scherzos), that I composed after hearing Pavoratti sing in an older broadcast of Pagliacci on late night TV, after he had passed away. I remembered his wonderful singing, and the tragic ending when Pavoratti, as the clown Canio, kills Nedda and Silvio, the final cruel “joke,” that leaves him alone and weeping from his violent act of jealousy. I recorded this onto a rack mount studio CD recorder, using a small mixer, and my 88 key Kurzweil K2500 keyboard.
