“The Sacred Rites of the Priestesses of Cybele” – a clip of track 2 from my new album, “The Scented Gardens of Alcinous”. This album attempts to literally conjure snapshots of ancient Greek mythology, through the exotic timbre of recreated Greek lyres and kithara – available now, from all the usual major digital music platforms, higher quality 320kbps MP3 ‘s of this release can also be directly downloaded from my website:
Cybele was the ancient Phrygian Mother of the Gods, a primal nature goddess worshipped with orgiastic rites in the mountains of central and western Anatolia. The Greeks identified her with their own mother of the gods–the Titaness Rhea. Her priestesses were drummers: they spoke to her and she answered in the ancient language of trance-inducing beats – which I have attempted to recreate; beating the skin resonator of my magnificent lyre in an imaginative attempt to awaken Cybele from her ancient slumbers!
This Drumming Goddess was worshiped for thousands of years in Babylon, Egypt and Greece. Regally seated upon her lion-throne conveys her queenship as Magna Mater of Rome…
