Johannes Brahms’s Intermezzo, Op. 119, No. 1, was written late in his life (1893). In an enthusiastic letter of Clara Schumann, he described it as “exceptionally melancholic” and “teeming with dissonances.” Recorded by Robert Cunningham on December 5, 2020.
